Will Theus Quaile, 92, died at her home at Isle of Hope on the 20th of September 2022. She was born in Savannah on March 31, 1930, to Will Hawkins Theus and Charlton Mayer Theus, Sr. She grew up in the house where she died, her family had owned the house for about 100 years. She spent her youth and later her adulthood crabbing, swimming, and boating off the dock and in the marshes of the Skidaway river. She went to Pape School and graduated from Ashley Hall in Charleston, S.C. in 1948. She studied art in New York City with Robert Brachman at the American Art School. On June 17, 1953, she married George Emerson Quaile on the front lawn of the Isle of Hope house. They had four children in five years and moved up and down the east coast until settling back in Savannah in 1968.

 Will's family and friends have for years, and years taken great comfort in her faithful prayers. She had a deep and spiritual prayer life: she spent every morning in dedicated prayer at her window seat looking out on the bluff. She was a life- long devout Episcopalian and a devoted member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church... She served on the Vestry, and on both the Altar Guild and the Flower Guild. She helped to start Senior Friendship days, taught Sunday School, worked at the Thrift Store, and served in many other capacities at St. Thomas. She and George spent many years serving on Faith Alive weekends. She attended Cursillo and was a member of a Reunion Group which met weekly for over 20 years. Will was an artist (a founding member of Gallery 209) and created beautiful pastel and oil paintings of her beloved bluff and many portraits of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid river woman and spent many of their 56 years of marriage sailing with her husband up and down the East Coast on their boats, Exodus I, II and III.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Quaile and her brother Charlton M. Theus, Jr. She is survived by her four children: daughter Anne T. Quaile (Eleanor Titus), sons Emerson B. Quaile and Charlton T. Quaile (Wendy Quaile) and daughter Charlotte M.Quaile; Eight grand-children, Hawkins C. Gay (Madeleine), Rebecca G. Evans (Lawrence), J. Usher Gay, Susanna Cover (Michael), Samuel Quaile (Erika), Mary Quaile, Joseph Quaile, Grace Quaile and eight ...soon to be nine great-grand-children . She adored her home, enjoyed entertaining guests on the porch and the dock. Even as she became limited to her room and finally to her bed- she took great pleasure looking out at her own private " cathedral" formed by the limbs of the giant oak trees in her front yard. The family would like to recognize the long-time friendship of Mary Hardee as well as the care given to Will by Ashley Bernitt in these last many years and the members of her Reunion Group: Beth Wall, Peggy Varnedoe, Margaret Minis, Phylis Posey and Betty Davenport.
